Sandra Winther is a Danish director, screenwriter and photographer based in New York. She tells emotionally raw, visually bold stories - often set in worlds shaped by nature, physicality, and resilience. Her cinematic eye is shaped by both documentary and narrative craft, with an instinct for images that stay with you.

She has collaborated with some of the world's most culture-defining brands, including Nike, Adidas, New Balance, Beats By Dre, Toyota, Samsung, Puma, Disney, Maybelline, and NBA.

Her debut feature ‘Lowland Kids’ - produced by Darren Aronofsky's Protozoa Pictures - follows the last two teenagers on Louisiana's disappearing Isle de Jean Charles. The film world-premiered at CPH:DOX and has since screened at IDFA, DOC NYC, Sheffield DocFest, Deauville, and Sydney Film Festival, with a theatrical release coming in 2026. It grew out of Sandra's award-winning 2019 short of the same name, which premiered at SXSW and won the Audience Award at Palm Springs Shortfest. Her documentary ‘A New Wave’, a portrait of South African surfer Mikey February and his father, was released as a New York Times Op-Doc in 2024. She is currently developing several narrative projects exploring identity, coming-of-age, and womanhood.

Awards include Gold at the 1.4 Awards, a Silver Clio, the True Award, a Cinema Eye Honors nomination, the Nowness Award for Breakthrough Artists, the YDA shortlist at Cannes Lions, the One Club's Young Guns, and Rhode Island Film Festival's Filmmaker of the Future.
